about

The self-titled debut album from Familiar Action is an art-rock, character-driven, exploration into modernity.

The strength of the record is in its internal contrast, not least demonstrated by the opposing vocal stylings of the Armstrong brothers. Throughout the album, the group utilizes pop structures and tropes amongst dissonant melodies and chord patterns in order to cultivate an atmosphere of unease and discontent. Much like the music itself, the vocal styles and lyrical contents' primary purpose is to project imagery and emotion rather than any form of literal storytelling or narration, although this is often how the words are framed. The record is not only informed by the mundanity of contemporary life but by surreal and provocative art and literature. Beneath the aggressive surface, there is a cornel of surrealist humor and playfulness embedded in the writing.

The album offers a snapshot of the absurd and contrasting nature of the human condition; it is painful, bizarre, and confused.
